Vietnamese Culture Night
The Vision:
Vietnamese Culture Night is the biggest event that our organization holds annually. The night is meant to entertain, inspire, and educate our audience about the rich culture of the Vietnamese and Vietnamese-American diaspora. The theme for this year's culture night is identifying oneself to their own roots and overcoming adversity and tribulations.
The Training:
Before our culture night comes several months of preparation and training. In my three years experience of being a part of Vietnamese Culture Night, this has been the most gratifying experience in my college career. The practices for culture night have brought me closer to my peers in this organization and have taught me to lead a group as well as work as a team.
The Legacy:
This year, the Vietnamese Student Association at University of California, Riverside will be celebrating our 30th year of operation on campus. I would like to make this the best culture night that VSA at UCR has ever had. Outside of carrying on the legacy of our organization, I would like to carry on the personal legacy of my own family. More than ten years ago, my cousin was the culture night director for the Vietnamese Student Association at UC San Diego. When I told her I was selected this year to become UC Riverside VSA's culture night director, she was ecstatic and told me "make me proud, cousin." The legacy I would like to leave behind is not meant for just VSA at UCR, or UCR Riverside, or UVSA. The legacy I would like to leave behind is for the Vietnamese and Vietnamese-American generates all around the world to hold onto their roots and sustain our rich culture and legacy.
